“Feral hogs are a problem for everyone in Texas — not just for farmers and ranchers,” said Dan Gaskins, AgriLife Extension wildlife and fisheries assistant, Gatesville, and one of the speakers at the workshop. “In addition to the damage they do to agricultural production, they contribute bacteria to our water and can cause serious accidents on the roads.”
Workshop topics will include: Basic Ecology and Biology of Feral Hogs; Feral Hogs and the Brazos River Watershed; Regulations for Transporting Feral Hogs and Disease Concerns; Control Techniques; Feral Hog Traps; Feral Hog Population Dynamics; Feral Hog Hunting Regulations; and Feral Hog Resources.
Speakers include: Gaskins; Randy Smith, Texas Wildlife Services, Fort Worth; Tiffany Morgan, Brazos River Authority, Waco; and representatives of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas Animal Health Commission.
The program is provided through a Clean Water Act nonpoint source grant from the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
