‘Picturing Texas Agriculture’ exhibit will be open April 9-27
AUSTIN — Visitors to the State Capitol in Austin during the month of April will have the opportunity to view a variety of photographs representing the size and diversity of Texas agriculture — each taken by 4-H and Future Farmers of America youth.
The exhibit, called “Picturing Texas Agriculture,” will open April 9 and remain on display through April 27 in the Capitol ground floor rotunda. Prize-winning images from eight categories – Agricultural Equipment, Animals, Agriculture Architecture, Texas Crops, True Texas Foods, People in Agriculture, Agriculture Education and Weights and Measures – will be on display in the rotunda.
The exhibit is free to the public on weekdays from 7 a.m.-10 p.m., and weekends from 9 a.m.-8 p.m.
“One hundred students in 4-H and FFA submitted their photographs for the 2013 State Preservation Board photography contest,” said Toby Lepley, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service youth development specialist at the Texas 4-H state office in College Station. “Photography is one of the many hobby and interest subjects available through the 4-H program, and we have many talented 4-H’ers who are learning about and applying the artistry and technical expertise necessary to take a really outstanding photograph.”
Lepley said AgriLife Extension, part of the Texas A&M University System, administers the Texas 4-H youth program. Currently there are more than 42,000 youth ages 8-18 in 4-H clubs throughout the state. In 2013, more than 550,000 youth statewide participated in 4-H programs and activities.
