GEORGETOWN — If you want to know more about aquaponics, habiturf, sustainable landscapes or native and adapted plants, you’ll want to participate in Williamson County Master Gardener events April 5, said a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agent for the county.
“If you know just the spot in your landscape for a native or adapted plant, you shouldn’t miss the plant sale hosted by the Master Gardeners during this spring educational fair,” said Fred Hall, AgriLife Extension county agent for agriculture and natural resources.
Hall said the educational fair and plant sale, along with tours of demonstration gardens will take place from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at the AgriLife Extension campus for Williamson County, 3151 S.E. Inner Loop in Georgetown.
He said the public is invited to attend the free educational program. Plant purchases help provide funds for programs and projects the local Master Gardeners provide to the community.
Educational programs begin at 8 a.m. with Master Gardener Wayne Rhoden highlighting the care and requirements of the plants available for sale starting at 9 a.m. Also beginning at 9 a.m. will be tours of the AgriLife Extension demonstration gardens and grounds.
Also on the educational program is Joe Schram, owner and operator of Joli Farms, which grows organic produce. Schram will give an introduction to aquaponics and hydroponics.
“Schram operates an aquaponics greenhouse and supplies greens to several local restaurants,” Hall noted.
Also on the program is Stephen Scace, who will present information on Habiturf, a low-water-use blend of native grasses developed at the Lady Bird Johnson Foundation.
Breakfast burritos, snacks and lunch will be provided by the Georgetown 4-Hers. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. and time will be allowed for visitors to check out the grounds or visit the plant sale.
At 12:30 p.m., Master Gardener Cat McGrath-Farmer with present information on what is a sustainable landscape.
