COLLEGE STATION – Dr. Larry Dangott, a research scientist with the department of biochemistry and biophysics at Texas A&M University in College Station, has received the Vice Chancellor’s Award in Excellence for Technical and Programmatic Staff.
The honor was presented Jan. 6 during the Texas A&M AgriLife Conference in College Station.
The Vice Chancellor’s Awards in Excellence were established in 1980. The awards program recognizes the commitment and outstanding contributions of Texas A&M AgriLife faculty and staff throughout Texas and provides an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of those honored.
Dangott is director of the Protein Chemistry Laboratory, a service-for-fee facility that offers technical services for the analysis of proteins to all researchers at Texas A&M.
According to the nomination, Dangott “has used his many years of experience to solve important and critical research problems, offer suggestions on further analyses to be done and interpret the generated data.”
“Dr. Dangott has been indispensable for the research programs of many faculty at A&M by offering the protein analysis services,” according to the nomination. “But, more importantly he has gone beyond simple service and become a collaborator with many of these researchers.”
Dangott has been an author of almost 60 publications and one book chapter in his career, the nomination stated.
In addition to his protein chemistry lab services, Dangott was cited for assisting with graduate student training, preparing and delivering protein technique workshops, mentoring students and teaching classes.
Dangott earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from California State University in San Jose, Californiaand his master’s and doctoral degrees in biology from the University of Oregon.
