OZONA – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will conduct the Crockett County Ag Producers Workshop from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. May 21 at the Crockett County Convention Center in Ozona.
“This will be a very ranch-focused workshop,” said Aaron Renfroe, AgriLife Extension agent in Crockett County. “Our first talk will be on range herbicides, and then we’ll switch gears for the remainder of the day to focus on wildlife management, specifically predators and predation. Our keynote speaker on that topic will be Michael Bodenchuk, Texas Wildlife Services director at San Antonio.”
Registration is $15 due upon arrival and includes lunch.
Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units, two general and one integrated pest management, will be offered.
Registration with coffee and doughnuts starts at 9 a.m. followed by the program at 9:30 a.m.
Speakers and their topics will include:
– Ralph Porter, Dow AgroSciences LLC, senior sales representative
of Abilene, Fence Line Brush Control and General Range Chemical Update.
– Bodenchuk, Predator Management; Control Methods – M44, 1080 Collars, Traps and other Methods; Feral Hog Control Update; Guard Animal Pros and Cons.
After lunch, Lance Criswell, Crockett County trapper, will speak on identifying predator damage and give an update on the current predator situation in Crockett County.
The workshop will conclude with Bodenchuk, Criswell and Jake Babb, another Crockett County trapper, conducting a demonstration on using traps and snares, while fielding questions on the various techniques.
