SAN ANTONIO – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Texas A&M Forest Service will present an Aug. 28 workshop for small-acreage landowners, homeowners and natural area enthusiasts.
The Alamo Area Conservation Workshop will be held at the Phil Hardberger Park-Urban Ecology Center, 8400 N.W. Military Highway in San Antonio.
“We will have educational programming, along with time for one-on-one conversations with the speakers and other exhibitors,” said Troy Luepke, AgriLife Extension water program coordinator, Bexar County.
Attendance will be limited to the first 200 paid registrants.
The program will be held in conjunction with the Central Texas Conservation Partnership, Bexar County Master Gardeners and Alamo Area Master Naturalists.
Luepke said the program will provide three Texas Department of Agriculture private applicator continuing education units – one integrated pest management and two general, as well as six Master Gardener continuing education units and Master Naturalist credits.
Program registration will be from 8:30-9 a.m. and coffee and snacks will be provided. After a short introduction, the program will begin at 9:15 a.m. and conclude at 4:30 p.m.
“We will have a variety of experts on conservation presenting at the program, including experts from AgriLife Extension, the Texas A&M Forest Service, San Antonio City Parks and the U.S. Department of Agriculture,” Luepke said.
Registration is $20 in advance or $25 at the door, and lunch will be provided.
Program topics will include natural history of the South Texas Plains, fire in the urban/wildland interface, oak wilt and other tree diseases, feral hogs, invasive pest insects and water quality.
