DALLAS – A Rodent Exclusion Hands-On Training for pest control apprentices, technicians and commercial applicators will be held July 30 at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Dallas.
The training will be from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in Building C of the center, located at 17360 Coit Road.
“This is the first time the center will be hosting such a program that includes hands-on training of residential exclusion practices,” said Janet Hurley, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service urban integrated pest management specialist. “Hands-on instruction will include demonstrating how to seal a house to keep pests from moving in.”
She said presentations and instruction will be provided by AgriLife Extension experts from the Dallas center and from Timmy Madere of the City of New Orleans Mosquito, Rodent and Termite Control Board.
Six continuing education credits will be offered for commercial applicators. For apprentices and technicians, a course certificate for six hours of attendance will be provided.
After an explanation of learning objectives and review of integrated pest management principles for exclusion, the morning agenda will include going to a residential location for instruction on how to seal up a home, including siding, gutters, soffits and flashing.
Afternoon presentations will address how to evict and keep out rats, bats, birds and squirrels, home inspection for termite and ant exclusion, and record keeping for pest control.
The cost is $75 and lunch is not included. Space is limited, so attendees are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
