BIG LAKE – Organizers promise a wealth of ranching information to those attending the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s Reagan County Ag Day on March 29 in Big Lake.
The program will begin with an 8:30 a.m. registration followed by the program from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the AgriLife Extension office in Reagan County, 1430 N. Ohio St.
“We have a wide array of topics and plenty of them,” said Chase McPhaul, AgriLife Extension agent in Reagan County. “We also have a top slate of speakers lined up, so I predict this will be a very productive and informative day for our region’s producers.”
The program topics will include:
– Ag Law, Hot Topics in 2016.
– Chemical Drifting.
– Hunting Agreements.
– Wildlife and Livestock Interaction.
– Protein Feeding – What Are the Benefits?
– Chronic Wasting Disease.
– Feral Hogs.
– Livestock Guardian Dog Publication.
– Benefits of Hair Sheep.
– Cattle Market Outlook, a Three-Year Plan.
– Livestock Risk Protection.
– Economic Benefits from Wildlife for Landowners.
– Spring Toxic Weeds – What to Look For.
– Mapping Soil and Comparing that to Brush Control.
– U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service and Farm Service Agency updates.
Speakers will include:
Specialists with AgriLife Extension include: Tiffany Dowell-Lashmet, agriculture law, Amarillo; Dr. Alyson McDonald, range, Fort Stockton; Dr. John Tomecek, wildlife; Bill Thompson, economist, and Dr. Reid Redden, state sheep and goat, all from San Angelo. Also, Cory Pence, Texas Department of Agriculture, San Angelo; Stephen Zuberbueler, Natural Resources Conservation Service and Jed Hruska, Farm Service Agency, Big Lake.
Individual registration is $10 due upon arrival. The fee includes coffee, donuts and lunch, but RSVPs are required by March 24 to ensure an accurate lunch count. For more information and to RSVP, call the AgriLife Extension office in Reagan County at 325-884-2335.
