SAN ANTONIO — The Dinner Tonight! Healthy Cooking School will be presented from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Whitley Theological Center, 285 Oblate Drive in San Antonio.
The school is being conducted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Bexar County, the Prairie View A&M University Cooperative Extension Program and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program.
“At-home family dining is becoming a lost art and many people are overwhelmed by the thought of menu planning and preparing healthy, cost-effective meals for themselves and their families,” said Angie Gutierrez, AgriLife Extension agent for family and consumer sciences, Bexar County.
Dinner Tonight! Healthy Cooking Schools were developed with the purpose of bringing people together in a fun environment to learn about healthy meal planning and preparation, she said.
“With a little guidance and planning, making home-cooked meals can be easy, nutritious and inexpensive,” Gutierrez said. “We also show people how to make their favorite recipes healthier by using alternative lower fat and lower calorie ingredients.”
She said the cooking school will feature cooking demonstrations by guest chefs as well as a vendor area where attendees can see many of the food products available from local purveyors.
The cost is $15. Attendees receive a recipe card, goodie bag, food samples and more. There also will be door prize drawings during the event.
