Small Grain Field Day April 28 near McGregor

McGREGOR – A Small Grain Field Day is set for April 28 near McGregor.

Cost is $10 and includes a steak lunch provided by sponsors. An RSVP is requested by April 25 by calling the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office for McLennan County at 254-757-5180.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the field plots located on Farm-to-Market Road 2617, four miles west of the Farm-to-Market Roads 2671 and Highway 317 intersection. Lunch will be at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at McGregor, 773 Ag Farm Road.

Dr. Clark Neely, AgriLife Extension state small grains specialist from College Station, will lead the tour of oat varieties planted at the McGregor Research Center as well as providing an update on other result demonstrations at the center.

Mark Nemec, consultant with MJN Consulting, will provide an update on the small-grain insect scouting area.

Dr. Mark Welch, AgriLife Extension economist from College Station, will discuss current and expected commodity markets.

Tony Driver, Syngenta agronomy specialist from Waco,  will discuss herbicides and fungicide updates for small grains.

Dr. Charles Stichler, independent consultant from Knippa, will present fertilizer programs for small grains.

Three continuing education units – two general, one integrated pest management – will be given.
