COLLEGE STATION — A workshop for prospective winegrowers will be June 23 at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Center, 3033 Bear Creek Dr., Houston.
“In a nutshell, this is a great opportunity to find out what one needs to know before making decisions that can equate to years of retro-working a vineyard or winery,” said Fran Pontasch of College Station, AgriLife Extension viticulturists for the Gulf Coast region.
The event will be 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Registration is $125 per individual or $200 per couple until June 21. Late registration is $150 per individual or $225 per couple. To register, go to https://agriliferegister.tamu.edu/Wine or call 979-845-2604.
Pontasch, Dr. Justin Scheiner, AgriLife Extension state viticulturist, and Dr. Andreea Botezatu, AgriLife Extension enologist, all of College Station, are presenters for the event.
Topics include the current status of the Texas wine industry, risk factors, site selection, vineyard establishment, winery establishment, labor and economic requirements, and expertise and resources available for growers.
