The event is free and will be presented in English and Spanish. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m., and the cooking school will be from 6-8 p.m.

“At this program attendees will experience a fun and healthy cooking class that will feature quick, easy and healthful meals to serve your family,” said Sonia Coyle, event coordinator and AgriLife Extension family and consumer sciences agent in Travis County.

Coyle said the school will feature demonstrating how to cook a nutritious menu that can be prepared in 30 minutes or less.

“There will be dinner, zumba, door prizes and giveaways,” she said. “And the first 50 participants to RSVP and register will receive a bilingual cookbook with several kid-friendly recipes. There is limited space, so event registration is first come, first served.”

Coyle said while many groups conduct cooking schools, the Dinner Tonight! Healthy Cooking School has a unique niche.

“Our recipes are cost-effective, easy to prepare and fit into a healthy meal plan,” she said. “We focus on busy people who still want to make time for meal preparation and feel good about what they are serving their families. Our goal is to promote family meal time and teach families healthful meal planning and food preparation.”

Additional event sponsors include Central Health’s Southeast Health and Wellness Center, the Texas Beef Council, Better Living for Texans, the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program and the Cooperative Extension Program of Prairie View A&M University.
