ROUND ROCK – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Williamson County will host a Dinner Tonight Healthy Cooking School from 6-8 p.m. April 16 at the J.B. & Hallie Jester Annex, 1801 E. Old Settlers Blvd., Round Rock.
“Our health is dependent on what we eat and the choices we make related to food, but there’s a lot of misinformation about the production of our food supply that can hinder making informed decisions about what to eat,” said Chelsea Stevens, AgriLife Extension agent for family and community health, Williamson County. “This Dinner Tonight Healthy Cooking School presentation will address some of this confusion.”
Stevens said the theme of this year’s event series will be Path to the Plate.
“Along with cooking demonstrations, presenters will also discuss the important role agriculture plays in proper nutrition,” she said. “AgriLife Extension agents will prepare three dishes attendees will be able to sample. They will also receive recipe cards for each dish prepared.”
Registration is $20 per person. Attendees should RSVP by April 12 to Pamela Ward at 512-943-3300 or pamela.ward@ag.tamu.edu. Online tickets are also available at https://williamson.agrilife.org/program- registration/.
Stevens said the dishes being prepared will also be economical and fit into the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s MyPlate dietary guidelines.
“That way you know the dishes are not just tasty but also good for you,” Stevens said.
She also noted the Dinner Tonight website at https://dinnertonight.tamu.edu/ provides recipes, weekly video demonstrations on cooking tips and techniques, nutrition education and menu planning basics.
“Sometimes all the information we get about nutrition can feel overwhelming and it’s hard to know what to serve, especially if time is a factor,” she said. “This program is designed for busy families and shows you can make a great meal easily, for a reasonable cost and in about the same time it would take to go to the drive-though, buy your meal and eat it.”
