AMARILLO – The Military Families Learning Network’s Military Caregiving program will host a free 60-minute professional development webinar June 13 on Mental Health Care in TRICARE: Recent Enhancements to a Great Benefit.

This and other webinars are offered through the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s Military Program to provide professional development and interactive resources for those unable to leave home for training, said Andrew Crocker, AgriLife Extension program specialist in gerontology and health, Amarillo.

The one-hour webinar will begin at 11 a.m. and is open to anyone interested, but registration is required. To join the session or for more information, go to https://learn.extension.org/events/3315.

This webinar will review TRICARE mental health care benefits, including what is covered, requirements for referrals, recent improvements, substance abuse treatment, tele-mental health and the Autism Care Demonstration, said Rachel Brauner, program coordinator with the agency’s Texas Military Program in College Station.

After participating in this webinar, Brauner said attendees will be able to:

– Explain how to access mental health care using the TRICARE benefit.

– Describe recent enhancements to the TRICARE mental health benefit.

– Explain when tele-mental health is appropriate and how it is covered under TRICARE.

– Describe the autism care demonstration and coming changes to the program.

Capt. Edward Simmer, who currently serves as the chief clinical officer for the TRICARE Health Plan at the Defense Health Agency, will be presenting.

The MFLN Military Caregiving concentration will provide certificates of completion for participants interested in receiving training hours and one continuing education credit from the University of Texas School of Social Work.
