LONGVIEW – The annual East Texas Regional Forage Conference in Longview on Aug. 17 will cover a variety of topics aimed at helping producers maximize pasture performance, according to a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service expert.
The conference is $15 per person by Aug. 10 and $25 after. It will be at the AgriLife Extension office in Gregg County, 405 E. The event begins with registration at 8 a.m. followed by the program from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Gregg County Judge Bill Stoudt will provide welcoming remarks.
Speakers and topics include:
— Jon Bryan, ACI Distributors territory manager, Tupelo, Mississippi – Baleage and its Place in East Texas.
— John Roach, Crop Protection Services herbicide sales representative, Centerville – Pasture Herbicide Updates.
— Dr. Luis Ribera, AgriLife Extension economist, College Station – International Markets and Trade Implications.
— Dr. Vanessa Corriher-Olson, AgriLife Extension forage specialist, Overton, plus AgriLife Extension economists Drs. Steven Klose and Greg Kaase, College Station – Economics of Planting Winter Pasture and Production Updates.
Two general Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be available to attendees.
Lunch will be provided.
“With all the trade issues that we are seeing and hearing about lately, this should be some information that we will want to hear regarding NAFTA, as well as other trade issues and news,” said Randy Reeves, AgriLife Extension agent, Gregg County. “We talk about winter forages every year, but this is the first time we will discuss the trade side of things and how they may affect production decisions going into winter and 2019. With all of the talk about trade, we think those are timely topics for East Texas producers.”
