MENARD – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host the Tri-County Range and Livestock Program for Concho, McCulloch and Menard counties held Jan. 24 at the Murchison/Whitehead Memorial Youth Complex, 190 W. U.S. Highway 190 in Menard.
Pre-registration is $20. Registration day of the workshop is $25. RSVPs are requested by Jan. 22 to Justin Klinksiek, AgriLife Extension county agent, McCulloch County; Travis Bell, AgriLife Extension county agent, Concho County; or Lisa Bown, AgriLife Extension county agent, Menard County.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m., and the program will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided, sponsored by Jeff Bedwell of Central Texas Farm Credit.
“I am looking forward to all of the topics,” Klinksiek said. “Every one of them has something good to offer. The oak wilt and oak tree management is a popular topic. The oak wilt is always a concern for producers since we live in an area with a lot of live oak trees.”
The group will discuss how to treat it, what to look for and how to prevent it.
“We all want to put on a diverse range and livestock program with good information that fits our area,” he said. “We want people to be able to take this information home and utilize it in their operations.”
Speakers and topics will include:
- Oak Wilt and Oak Tree Management, Renee Burks, Texas A&M Forest Service staff forester, College Station.
- Prickly Pear and Mesquite Control, Dr. Morgan Treadwell, AgriLife Extension specialist, San Angelo.
- Native Plants for Livestock and Wildlife, Steve Nelle, retired U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service specialist, San Angelo.
- Lunch, Jeff Bedwell, Central Texas Farm Credit, Brady.
