PLAINVIEW – Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s Hale/Swisher Crop Conference will be held on Jan. 31 at the Ollie Liner Center, 2000 S. Columbia St. in Plainview.
The cost is $20, and lunch is included. There are six Texas Department of Agriculture continuing educations units available – four general and two laws and regulations.
Registration is at 8 a.m. and the conference will conclude at 5 p.m.
“We’re fortunate to have so many local experts who will be speaking on a number of hot topics,” said Jason Miller, AgriLife Extension agent for Hale County. “We’re glad to give people the opportunity to earn CEUs while learning about topics that interest them. For example, people really wanted to learn about electrical safety, so that is a new topic we’ve added for this year.”
Scheduled topics and speakers are:
- Disease Management in Ensilage and Dairy Management – Dr. Juan Piñeiro, AgriLife Extension dairy specialist, Amarillo.
- Sugarcane Aphid IPM in Forage – Nikolas Clarkson, AgriLife Extension agronomy agent, Hale, Castro and Lamb counties.
- Laws and Regulations – Praveen Sapkota,TDA inspector, Lubbock.
- Hale County Noxious Weeds – Donald Ebeling, Hale County Noxious Weed District board member, Plainview.
- Hot Button Ag Law Issues – Amber Miller, lawyer, Crenshaw, Milan and Dupree law firm, Lubbock.
- Cotton Production and Marketing – Dr. Jackie Smith, AgriLife Extension economist, Lubbock, and Dr. John Robinson, AgriLife Extension economist, College Station.
- Electrical Safety on the Farm and in the Field – Andy Stewart, Swisher Electric Cooperative safety manager, Tulia.
- Grain Sorghum Hybrid Tolerance to Sugarcane Aphid – Dr. Calvin Trostle, AgriLife Extension agronomist, Lubbock.
