LUBBOCK — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office of Lubbock County and Great Plains Chemicals & Fumigation will hold the annual Lubbock County Stored Grain Pest Workshop on April 26.
On-site registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the workshop will run from 9 a.m.-3:15 p.m. It will be held at Koko Palace, 5201 Ave. Q in Lubbock.
The cost to attend is $20, which includes lunch. Participants are requested to RSVP to http://greatplainschemicals.com/training-workshops/, or via email to eric@meersco.com or by calling 806-745-3737.
“Pests are something any producer who stores grains constantly battles,” said Brady Arthur, AgriLife Extension agent for Lubbock County. “This workshop is for both agricultural and structural license holders to learn the best means of preventing and eliminating pests.”
Topics discussed will include fumigation procedures and safety, structural and agricultural pest management, and Texas Department of Agriculture laws and regulations.
Participants with a valid agricultural pesticide applicators license will receive five Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units — one laws and regulations, two general and two integrated pest management.
Attendees with a structural pest control applicators license will receive four structural continuing education units — one general training in laws and regulations, two pest control and one commodity fumigation.
Topics and speakers are as follows:
- Fumigation Procedures and Safety – Dick Bigler, fumigant specialist, Douglas Products, Liberty, Missouri.
- Laws and Regulations 2019 – Praveen Sapkota, agronomist, agriculture and consumer protection inspector at Texas Department of Agriculture, Lubbock.
