Wheatheart Wheat Conference set Aug. 8 in Perryton

PERRYTON – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host the 21st annual Wheatheart Wheat Conference on Aug. 8 at the Ochiltree County Expo Center, 402 Expo Drive in Perryton.

“All area wheat producers are invited to attend,” said Scott Strawn, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Ochiltree County. The program is co-hosted by the AgriLife Extension offices in Ochiltree, Hemphill, Lipscomb, Hansford, Roberts and Hutchinson counties.

Registration is $10 at the door beginning at 8:30 a.m., with the program from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch and a drawing for a $100 gift card will be sponsored by Texas Wheat Producers.

Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units – two general and one integrated pest management – will be offered to pesticide applicators.

The following topics will be addressed:

– Wheat Market Outlook and Marketing Strategies, Dr. Mark Welch, AgriLife Extension economist-grain marketing, College Station.

– Wheat Disease Management Issues/Sampling/Diagnosis Methods, Dr. Ken Obasa, AgriLife Extension plant pathologist, Amarillo.

– Variety Selection/Seed Management/Planting Management, Dr. Jourdan Bell, AgriLife Extension agronomist, Amarillo.

– Update from Texas Wheat Producers, Darby Campsey, Texas Wheat Producers director of communications and producer relations, Amarillo.
