BRADY — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will hold a range tour on Sept. 9 in Lohn.
The event will start with registration at 8 a.m., and the program will run from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Cost is $20 if preregistered by Sept. 5, or $25 at the door. Preregister by contacting the AgriLife Extension office in McCulloch County at 325-597-1295.
The tour will begin at the Phillips Ranch on County Road 314 E. in Lohn; the road will dead end at Phillips Ranch. The afternoon portion of the program will be at Lohn Tabernacle, located in downtown Lohn at the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 504 and Farm-to-Market Road 2635.
Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units are available, one in laws and regulations, one in integrated pest management and one general.
“I think we’ve got a great group of speakers coming to Lohn for our range tour,” said Justin Klinksiek, AgriLife Extension agent for McCulloch County. “I think this is a program that everyone will benefit from, given our expansive range of forage-related topics.”
Topics and speakers include:
- Fencing demonstration – Harold Shipman, Stay-Tuff Fencing, New Braunfels.
- Rainwater harvesting and wildlife – Billy Kniffen, AgriLife Extension water resource specialist, retired, Menard.
- Individual plant treatment, IPT, prickly pear plot demonstration – Morgan Treadwell, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension range specialist, San Angelo, and Dillon Demuth, Corteva AgriScience, Georgetown.
- Nozzle and surfactant demonstration – James Jackson, AgriLife Extension range specialist, Stephenville.
- Laws and regulations – Klinksiek.
Cattleman’s BBQ will provide a lunch of brisket, sausage and sides. The complimentary meal is sponsored by Corteva AgriScience.
