Range management workshop set Oct. 2 in Menard

MENARD — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will offer a range management workshop Oct. 2 in partnership with the Soil and Water Conservation District, SWCD, of Menard County.

The cost is $25 individually or $30 per couple. It will be held from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Murchison/Whitehead Memorial Youth Complex, 190 W. U.S. Highway in Menard. 

There will be five Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units offered:  one laws and regulations, one drift minimization, one integrated pest management and two general.

Lunch is sponsored by Central Texas Farm Credit of Brady. 

“There will be a tremendous amount of timely information presented at this range management workshop,” said Lisa Brown, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Menard County. “I hope folks take advantage of the experts we’ve assembled to ask questions and enhance what they know about range management.”

 Topics and speakers will include:

  • Laws and Regulations for Applying, Storing, Disposing and Record Keeping – Cory Pence, Texas Department of Agriculture regional training specialist, Fort Stockton.
  • Pollinators and Pollinators Habitat Management – Ryan McClintock, U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service wildlife biologist, San Angelo.
  • Managing Range and Pasture Herbicide Applications to Minimize Drift – Alan McGinty, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension range specialist, San Angelo.
  • Methods of Brush Control and Best Management Practices – Dillon Demuth, Corteva representative, Georgetown.
  • Wild Pigs: Biology, Impact and Control – Josh Helcel, AgriLife Extension associate, Texas Natural Resource Institute, Burnet.
  • Technology Use in Brush Control – Cristy Burch, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, geographic information specialist, Menard; and Megan Clayton, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension range specialist, Corpus Christi.
