SAN ANTONIO – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Bexar, Atascosa and Wilson counties will present a Beef Cattle Husbandry and Beef Quality Assurance educational program Oct. 11 in San Antonio and Oct. 12 in New Berlin.
The free program will be held Oct. 11 at the Performing Arts Center of Palo Alto College, 1400 W. Villaret Blvd. in San Antonio, and Oct. 12 at Brehm Farms, 7871 Farm-to-Market Road 775 in New Berlin.
Oct. 11 registration will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the center, with the program to begin at 5 p.m. Dinner will be provided compliments of Texas Beef Council.
Oct. 12 registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Brehm Farms.
“This will be a one-of-a-kind beef cattle program,” said Sam Womble, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent, Bexar County. “It provides a thorough overview of most aspects of beef cattle care and producing a quality beef product.”
Topics will include cattle selection and handling, body condition scoring, nutrition, food safety, common cattle parasites and environmental stewardship. There will also be a chute-side demonstration.
Two hours of Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units – one general and one integrated pest management – will be offered to private, commercial and non-commercial applicators.
